New Magazine – DIAERAMA

At the Coventry Show I met up with Tony Clayton from Shropshire Scale Modellers who coincidentally was also showing an Air Sea Rescue boat in a diorama setting. We got talking and he gave me a copy of the first edition of his new magazine Diaerama (pronounced “Diairama”) as it is aimed at helping primarily aircraft modellers to set off their models in a realistic way.

The first edition contained:-

1

25 photographs of dioramas seen at recent shows.

2

The first part (6 pages) of a list of figures, ground support equipment etc. which Tony has 22,000 items in his database!

Headings give Makers reference, scale, year period, material, nationality and manufacturer.

3

Four pages with 12 photos of a jungle scene using an elephant as an aircraft tug – Ceylon 1944.

4

Building an RAF pneumatic service trolley in 1/72.

5

Scale plans for a blister hanger in 1/72.

6

Conversion chart to adapt drawings from any of 16 scales to any other by percentage.

7

Building Grand Slam and Tallboy bomb trolleys with helpful tips and pictures.

8

Q & A section.

9

Description of an HMS Eagle diorama – Suez 1956, with plans of the catapult area deck markings.

10

Building a WW1 Mack “Bulldog” truck as used by the RFC.

All these 40 pages for just £7.50 (Free to contributors, so Tony got an article from me on “The Sea Shall Not Have Them”!) There are options for clubs to bulk buy at £6.50 ea. for 10, or £6.67 ea. for 6.

Planned production is 2 editions per year but the 2nd was 12 months after the first, with 52 pages and available at SMW.

I will bring both editions to the next meeting for members to peruse.
