As mentioned on page 1, we made a last minute change to the themed display for SMW 07. This has been in some ways a traumatic year for the club with not only the forced change of venue, but many of our usually prolific builders have experienced a number of life changing events which prevented their usual “output” and hence reduced our usual volume of completed models. We now have the theme for 2008 established as “Recce” and 2009 as the revisited “Best in the West”, so please put some thought into what you can contribute for the overall club display and get building early! Maybe we can see some scratch built Douglas motorcycles or Bristol Cars? Early heads up for the January meeting, which will be our AGM. All committee and administrative posts need to be elected, and some incumbents have announced they are stepping down for 2008 , so we have some room for new blood. More details to follow in the December newsletter. The visit to the Rolls Royce collection went ahead on a chilly evening in October. We were treated to 2 hours of guided tour around the many historic engines stored on site. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and also entertaining. Prior to the tour Sean presented the Heritage trust with a framed print of an evocative painting by Chris Draper depicting the Filton based Spitfire as a thanks on behalf of the club. |
